Rust-Anode Primer Now Approved in Alberta

Rust-Anode Primer Now Approved in Alberta: Another Milestone for the Protection of Canadian Infrastructure

A Canadian company, specialized corrosion protection expertise, and a new recognition expanding the potential use of our solution in public infrastructure projects.

Galvatech is proud to announce that its Rust-Anode Primer (RAP) product has been approved by the Government of Alberta for use on provincial government projects.

This new approval represents an important milestone in expanding our presence across Canada. It adds to the existing recognitions obtained from Quebec’s Ministry of Transport (MTQ), Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation (MTO), and Prince Edward Island’s Department of Transportation.

As a Canadian company specializing in corrosion protection, we are proud to contribute to the durability of our country’s infrastructure by offering solutions designed to address the demands of Canadian environments, industrial applications, and climate conditions.

New Opportunities Across Western and Northern Canada

Alberta’s approval creates new opportunities for engineers, contractors, steel fabricators, and infrastructure owners seeking effective solutions to protect steel against corrosion.

It may also be relevant to projects in Canada’s northern territories, including Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, where certain practices, technical references, or project requirements may draw on those of other Canadian jurisdictions, including Alberta and British Columbia.

However, the use of Rust-Anode Primer in these territories remains subject to the requirements applicable to each project and acceptance by the relevant contracting authority.

Recognized Technical Performance

Beyond government approvals, Rust-Anode Primer offers several technical characteristics and references relevant to the protection of metal infrastructure.

  • ISO 12944 – C5-VH: Classification associated with a very high-corrosivity environment, subject to the applicable qualification scope and conditions.
  • ASTM A780 – Recognition by the AGA: The product is recognized by the American Galvanizers Association in the context of methods for repairing damaged hot-dip galvanized coatings.
  • ASTM D5894 – 10,000 hours: Cyclic corrosion and UV exposure test results demonstrating the resistance of the evaluated coating system under the prescribed laboratory conditions.
  • Class A – Slip Resistance: A classification relevant to slip-critical structural bolted connections, subject to the applicable qualification conditions and scope.

These technical references help professionals evaluate protective coating solutions according to project requirements, exposure conditions, and durability objectives.

A Solution to Extend the Service Life of Steel Structures

Corrosion remains a major challenge for public and industrial infrastructure, including bridges, steel structures, equipment, transportation facilities, and assets exposed to harsh weather or aggressive environments.

Selecting a protective coating system requires consideration of its corrosion resistance, application requirements, maintenance needs, and overall lifecycle cost.

Rust-Anode Primer is a single-component, zinc-rich coating that provides corrosion protection and can simplify certain steel maintenance and repair operations. It is an option worth considering when access constraints, surface preparation requirements, or operational limitations make maintenance work more challenging.

By offering additional options for protecting and repairing steel, RAP provides professionals with another solution to help meet the durability requirements of infrastructure projects.
