Rehabilitation of Dam Gates with Rust-Anode Primer: Successful Projects

When it comes to barrier gate rehabilitation, our Rust-Anode Primer technology is often the solution of choice. Our resistance to immersion and ability to resist chlorides (salts) is well established, making it a wise choice for structures exposed to the harshest elements.

An Authority in Dam Management

The General Directorate of Dams, formerly known as the Center Hydro du Québec, is now integrated into the Ministry of the Environment, the Fight against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks. It manages several dams which have an essential role in the management of waterways across Quebec. These dams do not produce electricity, but play a key role in controlling water levels and supplies.

When these structures are exposed to extreme environmental conditions, it is essential to ensure their durability. This is why it is recommended to increase the thickness of our Rust-Anode Primer product to extend their longevity. In addition, for additional protection, a duplex product can be added.

Recent Successful Projects

We are proud to share two dam gate rehabilitation projects that have been successfully completed in recent years using Rust-Anode Primer.

1. St-Didace Dam, Lanaudière Region

In the Lanaudière region, in St-Didace, a rehabilitation project was undertaken for a dam equipped with 4 gates. This work took place over 2 years, with the repair of two doors in 2021 and the other two in 2022. The company GROUPE LAR from Saguenay-Lac St-Jean was in charge of carrying out this work.

Before/After

2. Jules-Allard Dam Gate, Chaudière-Appalaches Region

In the Chaudière-Appalaches region, a unique challenge awaited the rehabilitation teams. The gate of the Jules-Allard Dam had been in constant immersion for 35 years and had never been removed. This door was repaired, solidified, coated with Rust-Anode Primer, and reinstalled during the summer of 2023. The work was undertaken by the Carbonneau group, while the application of Rust-Anode Primer was entrusted to the Group Morin from St-Jean-sur-Richelieu. Our team was on hand to guide applicators through the process, answer their technical questions and share tips to ensure optimal application.

These projects demonstrate our commitment to preserving critical infrastructure and contributing to the sustainability of dam gates.
